I'm no crafting superstar, but I try

Time is just not my friend. I'm sure you can relate.
In my mind I have an alter ego that throws wonderful parties and remembers every major life milestone.
I send cards that I buy, or better yet I make them from scratch on this handy cutting machine I begged my parents and husband to buy me for my birthday this year...

Mimi's birthday is coming up.
I have some free time.
I have a scheduled party with about 75 people attending.
I have zero idea what to do and 500 things "pinned" ....does anyone follow through on pinning?

Last night I did! Woo-hoo! I put said cutting machine to use and cut out about 20 photo booth props. We have paper lips, and hats, and glasses. This machine even cut a pattern for paper flowers.

We'll post pictures of the party in 2 weeks. I'll give an update of each item and how DIY magic from the Pinterest realm translates to real life. We're putting Mrs. Shelby Sheen in the spotlight as photographer.

In the meantime...if you want cute cutouts of hats and lips and stuff...drop me a line. I'll probably charge you for shipping and the envelope...but reality is you're also doing me a favor as I have a pile of paper and need to hone my paper cutting via machine and not sissors skills.

Product Review: Fisher Price iPad Cover

Hunny Pie and I went to Target today for my first post baby outing, and I must admit to going a bit crazy in the store.

Cabin fever was setting in...

The toddler is obsessed with my iPad.

I cringe every time she touches it.

Magic...in the form of...(drum roll)...

This is WONDERFUL!!! In an all caps---spread the word kind of way.

The obvious major win is protection.

Second...there is a strip to keep tiny fingers from constantly pushing the home button on the pad. I'm not sure if your baby Einstein is like mine...but she seems drawn to the home button like a moth to a porch light.

The look and feel is baby/toddler friendly with 3 choices of leverage for play: it can be held up, propped up by oneor two levers found on the back of the device.

Downside? Two points to nite...You need a coin to open the back plate, and there is no way to turn the pad on or off while in the case. Small items that are a nusance, but for $60.00  an overall great investment.

Where to Sleep?

Traveling with small children is fun.

There is nothing quite like the hotel cribs--even if you're lucky enough to score one in the quality level of the Gaylord or Disney Chains.

Unlucky? Sleepless nights.

Squeak, squeak, rattle, rattle...toss..turn..no getting cozy...or so it seems.

We've begun booking hotel rooms with 2 queen beds, however; I have a fear that one roll too many will equal a face plant on the floor.

Faced with the arrival of our newest family member next week and a 4 day hospital stay, I am nervous about someone getting Mimi to bed at home while I'm gone.

Soon after he is born, we will go on a family trip and we'll be faced with the crib scenario again.

I thought and thought..and then saw an amazing item in Target for about $30 while on a random trip the other day.

This thing is actually super comfy, quickly assembles, comes in a bag and seriously is a quick shake pop-it-open endeavor.

The portable toddler camping bed.

Picked up a cute toddler sleeping bag as well...and boys and girls...I just hope the excitement shown in the photo above lasts and we have an inexpensive go anywhere solution.

I have a feeling we have a winner.

A glimpse into an industry few of us even think about.

I found a wonderful car, and I didn't even have to visit the dealership to buy. Crazy, cool huh?

Dick's Country Dodge in Portland area Oregon is awesome.

I thought..they gave me a great deal and I'll just have the thing shipped. How hard can shipping a car/truck be, right?

This may turn into a book, I apologize but you need to really understand the process...

You call a broker, or a carrier. The broker acts as a coordinator. This broker has access to a large database, or posting board that truckers look at and decide to pick up the vehicle or not to pick up the vehicle. This is the Central Dispatch (the software company name).  A carrier loads your vehicle on a vehicle and takes it somewhere based on postings here.

There is a Web Site called Transport Reviews.com that rates all brokers and carriers. The BBB also rates as well as 5 thousand other sites.

Let me tell you..there are 15 million brokers/carriers. Each eager to prove themselves to you..each telling you how honest they are and that they are the ideal guy. It's a shark tank boys and girls and to the average person...it's a scary process the first time around. The sheer numbers and choices are crazy.

I chose Magic Carpet Transport after reading reviews on both Transport Reviews and the BBB. I started the process on the 12th and the vehicle was to be picked up on the 18th. Something went wrong and they had to re-book now I'm looking at the 23rd which in the scheme of life isn't terrible. What was terrible was a tone of don't call us--we'll call you. You know how well that went over, right? I know the coordinator didn't want to call with no news, but..well..you know me and my project management 9-5 bleeds into my real life too.

About this time, I began to question my choice as our baby is set to arrive soon and I need a vehicle to transport the baby home in...so I sent a request for another quote out..and I was called by 5 thousand more people. I thought if MC can't get it together by X day, I'll just switch.

Each call explained the process a bit more as they spoke with me. I realized how little control each broker really has in the process. They build relationships with truckers and companies but they really have little direct say. You need them though as an intermediary to get on the board (Central Dispatch) and work for you.

Here's where life got interesting today as I was at wits end and checking other quotes in the event Magic Carpet could not get it together as I said before and...a company called me and said my auto was on the board twice..and hung up. I then learned that all brokers can see other brokers job queues essentially...

I thought let me try one more call to Magic Carpet and try and just get an estimate or see if we need to increase money...and they said the same thing..double booked....called Central Dispatch..same thing.

Word is if you are double booked, a trucking company will not pick up your car from anywhere. I called the offending company and was told I has a signed contract on file..to which I said I was going to file a police report. I asked for a call back or an e-copy of the contract and did not get it, so we'll circle back in the morning.

About  this time Magic Carpet has secured my dates...with a transport company...

Showtime Auto Transport and I will be in touch in the morning...

What's my point? I guess it's this:

As a consumer you have very, very little control over this process. Once you're engaged, you are really at the mercy of the company so pick wisely.

Once you pick the only way to confirm you're even on the board is to get a screenshot from your company, or to call the software company.

So why the double booking? Was it fraud? Was it a company trying to make me feel a bit of pain because I got irritated at the missed appointment on the 18th? Was it an honest mistake? I may find out in the am..and I may not.

I'm not sure how this will pan out...I am sure I never want to do this again.

Will my car be picked up on the 23rd? It may and it may not.

I did meet a couple of companies today that I really, really liked and I think if I ever do this again I may call them. In the end, I feel sorry for the guys that are out there really busting ass to be honest, on time and not be shady. I think they all have a degree of wanting to do the right thing. I dunno...A few minutes dealing with this stuff and the sheer craziness of the industry makes me really appreciate health care, car sales and telemarketing. This is one industry I want zero part in.

That's it....

Traveling with toddlers is always an adventure...

In my world anyway....

I saw this on Pinterest and thought WOW!!!

Someone is super smart. Upscale ziplock baggie filled with full outfit to include accessories.

Why stop with the kiddos? I need this...

Hearts & hands & knees & elbows...

I drew a heart on the back of her left hand as she sat on my lap and helped me juggle reading work emails and an impromptu conference call.

She quickly offered up her right hand...and looked at the drawing in awe...

Then a knee...and then the other..and soon..she was covered in ink from hands to the bottom of her feet.

I've been drawing or writing notes on my palm I think since I could write.

There has been more than one occasion when I have been part of a meeting and began jotting a quick note on my hand only to have someone in the room look at me like I'm insane and offer up paper.

My dad hated this habit. He would tell me the ink may stay forever, or it might be a toxin..any number of 500 unsavory outcomes....

I walked into the kitchen tonight and saw her with her dad. She was saying heart. heart. Heart. HEART.

as he drew in pink ink and told her his hearts aren't as pretty as mine.

I guess in the end if she ends up a tatted up diva, we'll own the outcome.

I'm confident at least one will be a heart.

A water equivalant of the glass slipper

I never knew how much trial and effort can go into selecting the perfect water safety device for infants and toddlers. We began with this...

and it was awesome until self realization occurred. At that time Mimi needed to be "out" and "down".

Life just hasn't been the same as we hurry and scurry and juggle to meet the demands of water and a toddler who has no fear of anything.

We moved onto this (notice the progressive cost association):

The above can be found on our Mimi-zilla.com Web Site as a almost never worn resale item. Mimi wore it once. You see we needed something capable of containing the Hulk..today our newest attempt arrived in the mail:

Here's to crossing fingers and possible success. I think this thing may have true potential...

Awesome Products

I'm quoting someone...although I do not know who.

Giving credit where credit is due.

The average family will spend $12,000. on a child each year, every year while they live with you.

Wow. That's some change, but I almost think that number for most of us, is really smaller than reality.

Averages are..well..averages...

I found a totally cute item to help you along the way to meeting that dollar figure:

The blooming bath. $40 of cute-ness:

Doh!

I had my very own Homer Simpson moment today...

I've been shooting pictures for three days and every picture almost had a blurry spot at the bottom, or on the right hand side....

I was so awake in the middle of the night wondering if I needed to hire a professional photographer..

Spend thousands of dollars on real photography equipment...

Shut down Mimi-zilla due to not being able to do this...

Advertisements are set to go out in two weeks and this site is not stellar...

as I whined to my better half..he said...

Is your lens dirty?

NO. NO. NO...I said.

Yes...Yes..Yes it was.

Why choose Mimi-zilla.com?

I guess the reason for choosing us kind of hinges on why we started...

I'm busy. Who isn't?

The economy is tough. We're all feeling it...but you know..this isn't enough..and these reasons don't make for a real story.

We're real people. Seriously, no robots here. You deserve a real story.

My sister has twins (imagine the cost of clothing them). She took some of her outgrown kid's items to a consignment shop and they gave her $2. in store credit for her items.

Better yet, she had a 60 day window for her items to sell--or become property of the store owner (aka donate to charity in this case).

I had been kicking around the idea to open an online consignment store as a creative outlet from my 9-5, and as a way I guess to say...that's just not how I would do things.

As I began telling my friends about my new project and focus..I began hearing stories of them dropping off items (both adult and kids) at locations across the US and never hearing back from the stores, and never getting money for items...and I thought...that wouldn't work for me. Why should that work for anyone?

So a vision came about via several brainstorming sessions about finding a way for people to easily get quality items to us, and from us..and a company that has a mission to exceed expectations and  anything others can offer was born.

How can we do this? We have low overhead and a current philosophy that it's more about the philosophy than the profit.

  • We can do things others can't because of this...like give you a 50% take on sold items.
  • We can list your items for 9 months or longer if we wish, because we have zero storage limitations.
  • As IT nerds, we've developed a web front end that makes starting the process with us very easy & a web back end that can track items for you so you never have to worry about never knowing where your items are...or how much they sold for.
  • We've put a significant amount of change into marketing...if you're going to do something..why do it halfway? You will have a national audience for your items.
  • We're open 24/7 because we are online.
  • (In the works we have something super cool with UPS that you'll also love as a busy person..keep your fingers crossed and your eyes back on our web to see if it comes to pass)...
In short, we're striving to be rock stars...so you'll love us.

No eggs...just bubbles

We're going through a nearly naked baby phase. I'm quite positive my neighbors are growing tired of seeing the diaper look Mimi sports...anyway...I'm going down a bunny trail and off the path of the blog.

The healthcare executive in me is surfacing here. Take it for what it's worth.

Recent studies have shown a dramatic increase in the past few years of cavities in toddlers. Meaning everything from the small to the root canal and even on to let's damage permanent teeth variety. Dental hygiene is critical. The cause is being attributed to everything from bottled water lacking fluoride to sticky fruit snacks to juice. I read the study and promptly took Miss Monster to the dentist.

After the dentist visit I took her to daycare where I was given the monthly flier. April 6th Egg Hunt. Please bring large pre-filled eggs to the class.

Hmmm....what to fill a large plastic egg for toddlers with? I had the same dilemma for the basket at the house for Easter morning.

I asked the school..you know...stickers..stuff...

I can't be sticking stickers in eggs for toddlers to choke on.

45 minutes into staring at shelves in Target I break down and ask my spouse for input.

He comes up with sticky fruit snacks. I cringe, but fresh out of better ideas buy the snacks and stuff the eggs.

Pick her up from school..apparently all other parents had the exact same idea. We munched on fruity snacks. She and I..and then we brushed.

And the Easter basket at the house? Bubbles. Bubble Machine.

Required a ton of batteries and a gallon of bubble juice.

File it under toys that matter..and...well...make that dental appointment for a check up if you haven't.

Newest Best Thing Ever

Target.

Bath Department.

Knee Pad.

Not to be confused with the knee pad in the gardening section, although they pretty much look the same.

Naturally the bath section knee pad is a bit more expensive. It has a smidge more padding in the knee section. A bit more contoured.

Either way. Once kiddo has graduated from baby bath and baby bath kinds of safety things...and moved on to I don't trust you for even two seconds in this tub by yourself....this is awesome.

Try it.

Even if it's the garden variety. :)

Baby Sign Language

Babies are brilliant. Let's face it, as parents we know this to be true.

I'm a product of the 70s. You know the days of no padding anywhere on the playground and the time where car seats may have been optional..or my mom may have been breaking the law...I'm not positive..but you get the idea.

Baby language skills have come a long way...boys and girls invest in this..we are amazed every day at the things that kiddo knows and just can't say with words.

Take Saturday for instance. Lunch at the beach. Doggie box filled with french fries. How did I know she was finished? She signed "all done".

We get in the car, princess and I and head down a road that requires focus.

She starts screaming "need, need, need" as she points to...I know the box of fries.

I toss one back to her and angle the rear view mirror as I still have a please use your teeth thought running through my head as she crams the entire thing into her mouth...

She is signaling "more"...

it is not working as I'm trying to drive...resorts back to screaming "need" as she rapidly motions for "more" with her fingers.

I'm throwing fries..

She's not stopping..

I'm convinced she is trying to kill us.

I'm being yelled at by the bilingual baby...proud...frustrated..still trying to drive...wondering if signaling and broken english constitute bilingual...

Minimal key words they/you need to get by:

More
All done
Milk
Book
Eat
Drink

Try it. Amzing.

Mimi-zilla.com is "live"

Oh wow....

Today our site: www.mimi-zilla.com is live!

We have put hundreds of hours into development, programming, testing and acquiring a starting inventory and I must say I'm very proud of the outcome.

Development actually finished two weeks ahead of schedule. Kudos team!

We will continue to add inventory items over the next few weeks as we have several hundred items to photograph and process, but we are underway with this exciting project.

Thank you for coming along for the ride.

In with a whimper. Just Between Friends.

All I can say is Oh Boy..Boys & Girls!

In my mind, snapping up pictures of 300+ items and posting to a Web Site was easy...I gotta say..I was feeling it yesterday and I had only hit 50 items. I think we're finding a groove now...fingers crossed.

The site keeps chugging along, only items left are to hook up the banking piece and finish adding items.

April 1, here we come!

Just Between Friends.

I had the opportunity to visit a JBF consignment event last week as an early shopper. I need a dual stroller and was cringing at the cost of a new one.

These events are amazing to see, the volume of inventory is crazy.

I think I'm glad to have been an early shopper though, as the public was not yet involved..and the space was already quite crowded. It was almost like the store during the holiday season where all parents are shopping for the same cool toy...to me it was almost anxiety inducing.

Brand was key and the key brands went very, very quickly.

It was also a validation of sorts to myself of why we set out to create this site in the first place.

I did get a major score. I found my double stroller for $50. in like new condition. Thank you so much prior owner for consigning it, and thank you JBF for the opportunity.

2 toys to try...

We have a ton of toys around the house.

Much like you do I suppose...not sure about you...but my house went from tidy to looking like a day care center overnight. But this blog is about 2 toys and not the general madness strewn across the living room floor.

These two toys stand out from the pack....

1. Leap Frog: My Pal Violet & Scout.

This toy is awesome. There is a Scout version for boys.Quite simply it's a bear that can be hooked up to your computer and fully personalized to/for an individal child. Battery life lasts, the toys is great size..and soft. They say the kid's name, sing several songs..love...love...love  'em.  Priced at about $25. new.
2. V Tech Alphabet Train.

This toy has happy sounds. It can be pushed, pulled, climbed on, knocked over and of course...has songs that teach letters, words, etc. It is a favorite for all ages that come through our doors...I found mine gently used at around $20. Retail is $45. at Wal-Mart.

If you have opportunity to try either out...let me know if you agree.

Finding a daddy. Progress.

Finding a daddy...

I'm not sure where or how this started, but we play with Mimi with expressions like..where's the mommy..get the daddy...instead of using correct sentences.

Last week I went to pick her up from school and walking out the door we were playing let's go home and get the daddy...which turned into let's go find a daddy..which turned into laughter as I realized I made the statement while a man held the door open for us as we exited the building.

I hope when tells this story at parties about the mom and baby going daddy hunting right after daycare..he makes it extra juicy.

Progress...

The final mock-up for the Mimi-zilla.com Web Site is complete. I am super excited. It looks great.

I spent 3 hours today doing inventory on clothes. While it's fun...it's also work.

Can't wait for the next milestone!

Taking young young children to the mall playground

The weather outside is blustery.

The mall playground is free and warm.

Mimi is 16 months old.

I stressed out every parent in that place by taking her there and placing her around older kids running this way and that.

Some kids wanted to hold her and carry her to the dismay of parents.

"Don't touch..don't touch..put her down..PUT HER DOWN!"

Apologizing to me, and me apologizing to them.

Some wanted to put a sock and foot very close to her face.

Some whacked her lightly with hands like a get it away bug kind-of-deal and she whacked them back.

She simply wanted to climb (with assistance) to the tallest item, the giant cheeseburger, and then jump off of it while I held her. The small kids toys were not for her.

I was tired. We were only 15 minutes in. We called it a day at 20 minutes and I came home for a nap.

It was fun, but I think it will be a bit before we venture that way again.

Feb 9, 2012

It looks like a boy's room.

We'll have a count of 3 soon...tick tock goes the clock..wait..wait..can't wait to meet the next one.

#1 is almost 17 and I remember being sooo excited at the news of a girl. I envisioned many girly adventures, and we have had many of over the years. She is a mini me in many ways and it a great source of comfort and deep love as well as struggle on occasion.

#1 is smart, beautiful, personable, artistic.

#2 was conceived at what we hope to be the height of teen age girl angst involving #1.

I left the doctors office after the sex ultrasound and called my sister crying from the car because I knew the universe was trying to slowly, painfully kill me off with another girl..either that or my mother's curse had been said on multiple occasions. You know the one..."you wait until you have kids"..yes..yes. Maybe she put extra pepper in that magic potion..because..

#2 is peppery..in way that is all her own. She is a force of nature with a touch of shy. Fearless. This one will have broken bones before kindergarden.

#3 is still cooking. The positive thing about a girl is you kind of know what to expect. A boy? My adventure has already been different this far and we haven't even really begun.

The nursery.

#1 has had more bedroom makeovers than a few.

She has slept in baby dream world, Disney magic, white furniture with little bows, twin beds, bunk beds, queen beds, girl decor, young lady decor..and a few others I'm probably missing. She was very happy with each change. Movement, motion, creativity...

#2 decided she was done with the crib at 9 months.

She is our mountaineer. We have moved on to the low plastic bed on the floor. I think she'll probably be happy for a bit. As long as it has an element of pretty and she can jump on it...

I imagine she will be fine with whatever. She seems to really like routines unlike #1 who always has been a bit more of a free spirit. I forsee a few room makeovers, but not a lot.

#3 needed a new dresser.

I moved the old crib into his room with a twin bed...they are almost the same color.  Put curtains on the window and a single picture with cars on the wall.

The dresser was delivered on Sunday and as it was placed I sat back and thought..

This looks like a boys room.

Take out the crib and this could take him through high school.

It almost looks like a young man's room too....minus the car picture on the wall. Switch out a flag and it's good.

I was amazed at the simplicity of it.

Excited at the possibility of the simplicity of it.

And suddenly a little nervous at the simplicity of it.

To Leider Leider or not to Leider Leider...Deeter Deeter

There is a great benefit in daycare.

There is also a benefit to having both of us (adults) working in the medical profession.

If there is a germ on the planet, it is coming through my home. Usually sooner than later.

If you are ever worried about a great outbreak, we'll make great proverbial canaries.

I believe in science and the pharma industry and am so glad we can dose the munchkin when she is ill.

Mimi has a great personality. Unless she is sleepy, tired, bored or getting sick. This is when we see the transformation to Mimi-zilla and the world just needs to be aware. A war cry generally comes with the transformation from cute toddler to monster. Appropriate I think...as in the movies there is also a dramatic transformation, right?

Last night she was warm and sniffling and I gave her the appropriate dose of pain reliever and help you breathe and 30 minutes later she was just out. Sleep. Slumber. Quiet.

My first meeting of the morning was scheduled today at 0800. Off to bed, early to rise. Satisfied, I went to sleep for about an hour and then woke and thought if she spikes a fever in the night when this wears off how will I know? Then I could not go back to sleep. Call it my OCD.

Enter mommy mistake #1: Grab the child and pull her into bed with me. Where she proceeds to kick me until she wakes at 0230.

Enter mommy mistake #2: 0230...change diaper since she is in bed with me.

Enter mommy mistake #3: Turn on light next to bed to prepare the meds. Give meds.

Crawl back into bed and think...in 30 mins we'll both be in slumberland. Night, night..baby.

Kick, kick, kick..toss...turn..check clock as I'm feeling like I'm in the 5th level of hell. She is singing to herself.

War cry: Leider Leider Leider Leeeder...Deeter Deeeeter...arms wave in the air. She's at least polite about it. Usually it's at the top of her lungs. Last night it was quasi quiet..as if to make sure I knew..but not wake the dog.

Help the kid breathe medicine did not help her sleep...just the opposite.

She was everywhere at once...standing in the bed climbing the wall...pull her back down..she stabs me in the eye with a pointy finger..."eye"...leider leider...

Clock check: 0430.

Toss turn...want to cry until..she finally crashes.

0545.

Alarm goes off at 0615.

Off to the races...I was the baby today. All day. Not myself due to lack of sleep...sucking back sniffles of my own..felt like crying all day.

We all have these stories. I wanted to write this one so that years from now, I have a golden ticket to wake her one random morning running in her room with my arms waving high above my head yelling at the top of my voice leider leider deeter deeter. Maybe I'll jump on her bed at the same time and shake my butt just for extra kicks.

I'm think it might be great when she is a teen and maybe stayed out too late the night before...done some great misdeed...I dunno.

She probably won't appreciate it..but I will.

Here's to you moms. *Cheers*

Keeping Clothes in Great Condition

Bibs, of course work wonders.

Until, of course...our children learn to rip them off..or better yet...pull a Mimi and just grab the thing and hold it at arms distance while acting like the cloth is the most painful item ever...while whining and borderline choking. I'm a pushover. The bibs are long gone. 2 seconds of that action and we were both over it.

We've discovered 2 classes of clothes. The everyday play that I get at the local box shops and clothes that are for better days. Daycare and the playground see the $5 tops (you'll never see them...they are trashed). Church, outings, days with friends and family see the better stuff.

On cold days we layer with the box brand shirts under a button up sweater or jacket and open the outer layer when eating. It helps. We do occasionally have stain casualties. Who doesn't? I'm still not responsible enough for white...and I'm pushing 40.

We use a method of putting the nice clothes on hangers in the closet, and the everyday wear folded in the dresser. You'll find a system that works for you.

There are a few other things to try. They seem to work well:

1. Wash in cold water when you can.

2. I really don't buy a lot of whites, creams, very light colors. You are just asking the universe for trouble. Don't get me wrong, stains are stains...but I'm a sucker for not asking for issues.

3. Stain sticks/Stain pads. Oxy Clean is magical. Stick them in the diaper bag or your purse. If the stain goes through the dryer..generally...it's part of the item. Treat ASAP even if it's just with water. Don't let it sit sprayed in the hamper for a week (We learned this the hard way).

4. Wash only when needed. Not all clothes need laundered with each wear.

5. If the tag says Dry Clean only. The manufacturer means Dry Clean Only.

6. Choose the appropriate washer and dryer settings.

7. Starch. I'm not this good--but it's a pearl..so I'm passing it on..starch and an iron act as a stain repellent.

Dinner & A Doggie Bag

I have a pearl to pass on. You'll either love it or hate it.

I once knew someone who knew someone who was a true mover and shaker. This individual would go to an eatery and place his order and ask for his check at the same time...by the time dinner arrived..he had already paid.

Now.

Some people are horrified by this.

I don't do this on a regular basis...but I must say..keep this pearl. Maybe try it on an occassion like my dinner earlier tonight..I believe it truly helped all the fine patrons in Olive Garden.

I do usually wait until my meal is delivered, as it's a great gauge for the eating part of the meal. Miss Monster was surfacing..it's very nice to just have the option. Ask for your check and a box..or two..or whatever you need.

This way you do not have the long wait while the child is whining, or in my case screaming and doing backbends trying to escape the high chair... as I try and contain the situation on my own after the meal waiting for someone to bring a check.

At the point when you are ready..you just get up and leave..at your time..and on your terms. If you don't use the box..no loss. My teenager was horrified at this practice when I first started it. She thought it very rude.

I simply tell the waiter/waitress that the baby has about a 20 minute expiration time and he/she will appreciate me so much more this way..and so will everyone around me.

So far the reception has been warm..and my service is still great.

I now find the teen trying to use this even when the baby is not around.

The Perfect Diaper Bag

This isn't my first go round with small children. Mimi has an older sister, she's driving. There is quite a difference with raising children in your 20s vs. your well...almost 40s.

Interestingly, a good..no..no..a great diaper bag is critical at this point in my life. I don't remember this being the case the first time around. Cute is great but functional is critical. I have a wide range on hand as I really did not know what I wanted.

I have small bags, and large bags, and the Coach bags and well.. I'm sure you get the idea...

My perfect bag has not been a traditional diaper bag at all. It actually belongs to my spouse as he wanted something manly. We bought him a backpack diaper bag. It's just awesome. Target brand. $80. Navy. No frills. I find myself stealing it and claming it as my own.

Too many zippers and pockets, but I have to say that really doesn't matter as it's perfect. Spills, smashes, fill it up..no issues. Dirt. Wash. Dry. Good to go.

If you are like me and no bag is quite right for you, take a spin with a backpack you have lying around. It may change your whole life. The airport and flying with the thing? Amazing.

AAA

Mimi likes to be a big girl.

Driving is of particular interest to her, so our newest ritual is unbuckling her from the car seat and pulling her up in the front seat with me and allowing her to push buttons and steer the wheel.

I generally am just patient enough to allow this exercise to last for a few minutes and then we move on to real life.

Today, real life consisted of a nap and lunch and not returning to the car for a few hours.

When I did, I heard a nice..twink..twink..and my heart kind of sank as I turned the key with hope and heard a not quite metal not quite anything sound...which also consisted of a lack of engine noise.

My thoughts went immediately to trying to figure out when my husband would be home so he could save me by allowing me to hand my mess to him..but that would be not nice..and I have work in the morning..so real life began consisting of a few frantic..now what moments...

We joined AAA last month. When we joined, I laughed at my better half and joked about being officially old..and how much of a worthless endeavor this would prove to be.

Thank you AAA for not being a crappy worthless service after all.

Thank you for taking less than 30 minutes to dispatch someone to my garage to start my battery at no cost to me.

Thank you for not asking details about the situation as to spare me from feeling any more like an idiot than I did at the moment when I realized the car had to have been shooting a loud warning at me when I extracted us originally....
